मिल्खा सिंग यांचे चौथे येणे किंवा काही शतांश सेकंदाने हुकलेले पी.टी. उषाचे पदक यांच्याच आठवणी वारंवार, प्रत्येक ऑलिम्पिक आधी उगाळल्या जातात.  एकेकाळी क्रिकेट किंवा व्हॉलीबॉल खेळाकडे आकर्षित होऊ शकणार्या नीरज चोप्राच्या गुणवत्तेला लष्कराने ऑलिम्पिक सुवर्ण पदकापर्यंत पोहोचण्याइतपत सक्षम केले. भारताच्या ऑलिम्पिक इतिहासात एथलेटिक्स खेळातले हे पहिले पदक तेही सुवर्ण पदक. नीरज बद्दल बोलायचे तेवढे कमीच, प्रशंसा शब्दात मावेना पण आज मला तुमचं लक्ष एका विशिष्ठ पैलू कडे वेधून घ्यायचं आहे, जेणेकरून आपण ऑलिम्पिक मधून प्रेरणा घेऊ आणि आपले, आपल्या मुलांचे किंवा आप्तांचे भविष्य उज्ज्वल बनवण्याच्या मार्गी लागू.

राष्ट्रवाद, हिंदुत्ववाद, पाकिस्तान, निंबू मिरची च्या नावावर कामगारांच्या पोट पाण्यावर कशी लाथ मारली जात आहे, हे आपण समजून घेतले पाहिजे. आपण निवडून दिलेली नवीन सरकार आपल्यावरच कसा तंज कसत आहे हे आपल्याला सरकार च्या सार्वजनिक क्षेत्राचे निजीकरण करण्याच्या धोरणावरून कळायला हवे. गेल्या काही महिन्यात देशात ठीक ठिकाणी सरकारने ज्या कंपनी चे निजीकरण करण्याचे ठरवले आहे त्या कंपनीचे कामगार वर्ग सरकार विरोधात मार्च (protest) करत आहेत. News चॅनेल मधून आपल्याला कामगारांच्या संपाची माहिती मिळेल याची अपेक्षा ठेवणे जरा जास्तच होईल.
